Faith

Faith can be a very powerful thing and I'm amazed that more people don't have any.  Of course faith comes in many different varieties and can be difficult to nail down, but I've got it!

I have faith in my good luck. There are two forces that are responsible for everything that has ever happened or ever will happen in our universe. Those two things are; TIME AND  LUCK.  Billy explained all this to me when we shared a room in the sanitarium. Or maybe I explained it to him.

My time is running out. Cause I'm gettin' on in the world, comin' up on sixty-one years. Sixty-one stoney gray steps toward the grave. You know the box awaits its grisly load, then I'll be food for worms. But until then, call me Lucky.

Years ago I came upon a gold ring in a pawn shop and that ring has been the centerpiece of my luck. Many wonderful things have happened since I purchased the lucky ring and I'm confident that countless more strokes of good fortune will fall my way as long as the ring is on my finger or placed upon my lucky altar. I wouldn't trade it for that piece of junk that the pope has his lackeys  kiss.

I've also got a lucky coin, a lucky stone, a lucky nugget and lots more lucky stuff. But all this lucky stuff wouldn't be worth shit without faith. (except the ring, that son of a bitch is powerful on its own) One more comment on luck, it doesn't hurt to play the odds.

Never question a man's faith. No good will come of it and you'll only end up bitter, alienated and lonely. And you're not going to get lucky if you sit around and feel sorry for yourself all day.

There's one sure fire way to ruin your good luck, buy a lottery ticket.

And if you see a black dog, get down on your knees and pray like crazy.

  1. Nice looking dog. I like labs. But I've never figure the difference between Faith and Hope.

  2. If you can spare some of your luck, my team could use it in the Final Four. I think they are pretty solid, but every little bit helps. A wise man said you gotta stand for something or you will fall for anything. Or it might have been a country singer. Take care, Mr. Rosewater. Please give my regards to BP.

  3. Anything that makes you grateful for your life is good. As for the black dog, its eyes look more sad than evil, but maybe I'm mistaken.

  4. dora - i can hope for stuff to happen but have little faith in the outcome. with faith, i'm pretty sure of a good outcome.

mr shife - it's pretty hard to decide where more wisdom originates, country singers or facebook memes.

gb - i think the black dogs eye radiate empathy. when i mean pray to the black dog, it's not to ward of evil. it's to capitalize on your good luck for stumbling upon a creature with a soul unmatched in love and understanding. and what the hell, if you have an opportunity to pray, what's to lose?

  5. Hello Rosewater,

Interesting post on faith. I always believe that something good is going to happen to me if I see a black bird. I also have faith in No.3. So I take lottery tickets ending with number 3 and hopefully I will get a huge prize amount one day.

    Fantastic photo of your dog.

    Best wishes

  6. thanks joseph. unfortunately that's not my dog, i just fell in love with the picture.

years ago i would buy a lottery ticket when i felt lucky but i always lost. then after several years i said to myself; hey wait a minute, these lousy lottery tickets are killing my lucky streaks so that was the end of lottery tickets. it's probably been twenty years since i bought one.

  7. Right now I'm having more luck getting my faith from country singers, but those FB memes are gaining popularity. They are like the Donald Trump. By the beard of Zeus, please tell me I can live with you if the orange-tinted overload gets elected.

  8. Faith = Karma
Hope is shitting in your hand and hoping it turns to gold.

Only your body becomes food for worms.

    1. Rosewater, THAT'S the kind of wisdom that illustrates why you need to stop rebelling against the wisdom of the aged.

  12. Doing tomatoes this year? I just planted a few seeds, should do well with all the sun we have here.

  13. no tomatoes this year. the rip is digging holes and snapping at bees all day. if i turn the soil and plant some tomates she'll destroy them within 24 hours.

her destructive ways are forgiven due to the excellent security she provides.

  14. An electric fence around them would solve that problem, most dogs learn pretty fast, except for the ones that just fucking never learn to leave porcupines alone.

  15. It's just hard to turn a black lab into a believable representation of death, unless, of course, you think of death as cuddly and playful.

“My time is running out. Cause I'm gettin' on in the world, comin' up on sixty-one years”

You poor old scudder! Seriously though, shouldn’t a youth like yourself show more respect for the accumulated wisdom of his elders? BBC and I could teach you so much if you could only get beyond this period of adolescent rebellion.

“Never question a man's faith. No good will come of it and you'll only end up bitter, alienated and lonely.”

So, don’t criticize ISIS, and let Bible Belt Christians turn the South into a theocracy, so that I can be like you and sing a happy song all the day long?

  16. Snow, yer bringin' me down man!

Who said anything about the black dog representing death? The black dog is a benevolent god and brings nothing but good fortune to his followers.

In the past I mentioned that I loved my old pitbull and you wrote that you despised pitbulls. Then I mentioned that I enjoyed giving money to the homeless and you wrote that you despised the homeless.

Yer a nasty one Mr Snow.

    1. The black dog—and the color black in general—represents bad things to most people. For instance, Winston Churchill used it to represent his own periods of depression, and it also represents death. You’re right, I hate pitfalls and homeless people. If you had had homeless people shitting in your shrubbery and littering your neighborhood for 26-years maybe you would too. As for pit bulls, they’re bred for ferocity, yet the people who own them claim that the dogs are sweeter than cherry pie unless their person makes them mean, yet there’s no proof of this, and the one who nearly killed my schnauzer was owned by a very nice woman with two small daughters. I almost NEVER hear of a serious dog attack on the news unless a pit bull was responsible.

You and I don’t get along, yet we keep visiting one another’s blogs. Why is this, do you think, and do you want to keep doing it?

    2. No problem Snow. You're always welcome in the pond.

As they say; I'm ok, you're ok.

    3. Thanks, Billy, but isn't it Rosewater's blog?

    4. Yes, it is Rosewater's blog but Eliot is a kind and gentle soul who is ill equipped to deal with pernicious behavior. Frankly, he's terrified of you.

I however, often rush in where angels fear to tread. You're welcome to heap abuse upon me until the cows come home but Eliot is off limits until his health improves.

    5. Poor baby. He's certainly well-equipped to abuse, so think he's afraid of little old harmless me is astounding.

    1. Rip's supposed to be half pitbull and she'd tries to lick people to death too. But she also takes her security position very seriously. Pitbulls can be awesome dogs.
