new toy

i've been toying with the idea of getting a new desktop computer and it was time to shit or get off the pot. i took a shit and in about a week the new computer will arrive.  sonny is on his honeymoon and he's in charge of setting up my toys so it wasn't urgent to get it delivered today. i could have driven across the city and picked it up but delivery was free so why deal with traffic?

that's right, sonny is now married. it was a big affair at the university that had been in the planning for over a year. i hadn't got my hair cut or trimmed the beard in about 6 months,  throw in a stitched-up mouth with loose teeth and i'm pretty sure  people were concerned that i'd fuck it up. i got a haircut, trimmed the beard and bought a new suit about a week before the ceremony.

you can help an old lady cross the street everyday, but fuck up the wedding speech and guess what you'll be remembered for?

i'm happy that it's over and the new computer is the reward for behaving myself. i've decided to keep the old computer operational and use it for movies, music and pictures. hopefully the new toy will stay lightning fast without all the entertainment bullshit clogging up the works.

this time i bought an ASUS.  my current desktop is a cheap HP that has worked really well so i was looking for a new HP but couldn't find the right features at the right price. i almost bought a  lenovo a few times but the goddamned things kept selling out while i was sitting on the pot. the thought of buying a laptop or tablet didn't even cross my mind. i like big keyboard and a big screen that are always going to be in the same place.

    Yes, a desktop is good buy if you don't need to move it. I hope you got a fast one with the latest Intel processor. Are you looking forward to grandchildren?

      it's an intel processor but probably not too swift, i'm not a gamer. i'd like some grandchildren but the happy couple are into their careers at the moment.

    in a perfect world i'd only have one desktop that would never slow down with malware etc and never become obsolete. let me know if you find a perfect world.

    I love my iMacs. Peggy and I have one iMac each, and hers is probably six years old, rarely get turned-off, and has never given us a problem.

      my hp hasn't given me any problems so the new toy is a preemptive move. the hp was dirt cheap, i can buy 4 cheap pc's for the price of a mac. but the main reason i go for pc's is sonny. he's not a mac guy.

      joseph, it's labelled a 27 inch monitor but it sure doesn't seem to be as large as an old 27 inch television.

    Congrats to your son and good job getting through the speech. I've been putting off getting a new computer. I always borrow the wife's, and I'm bound to spill coffee on it soon and she'll throw me out. better put new computero onto the top of my list . . .

      I was shocked to discover just how little liquid it takes to kill a keyboard, and since mine are the ergonomic kind, they cost many a penny. As for spilling coffee, I use a stainless Contigo mug that you have to press a button to drink from, so I could put my mug upside down on the keyboard without fear of spillage.

      i can't remember ever spilling a liquid on the keyboard but it's always getting granola and cookie crumbs. i shake it upside down and vacuum it every few months.
