knives

for some unknown reason, i recently decided that i needed a new pocket knife. it was probably that guy whose dad arranged for him to be nailed to a cross  whispering sweet nothings in my ear again. that son of a bitch won't leave me alone after i've sparked a bud or two. i still haven't figured out if he whispers in my ear because he genuinely likes me or if he's just fuckin' with me.

the first knife i picked up was a BUCK MINI ICEMAN. it was dirt cheap and it feels real good in my hand so i have no buyer's remorse. it has thumb studs for one handed opening which isn't exactly easy with this small knife. it was a struggle to open with the thumb stud and it hurt my thumb but i kept fritzing around with it until i mastered the technique. then i looked at my thumb and it was bleeding! now my thumb hurts like crazy so i'm trying to stop playing with it until it heals.

since my thumb was injured, i decided to pick up a knife that opens with a flipper: BUCK VANTAGE SELECT. the flipper works better than the thumb studs so once again i have no buyer's remorse. after playing with it for a day, my index finger hurts and i can't open it as quickly as i could when it first arrived but the index finger is not damaged like the thumb. just a little sore.

so i have 2 new pocket knives and also have 2 sore fingers. the good thing about having 2 sore fingers is it has dampened my enthusiasm for buying more knives. but the fingers should be good as new by the time the weather improves and the scooter is back on the road. if i get a good enough knife, maybe i can join an outlaw biker gang. now that i've played around with a few cheap knives, i might be able to select a good knife that i'll  actually use rather than just stick in the drawer and forget about it.  so it goes.

billy loves you sons of bitches.

  2. I like the kind of knives that you can use to carve a piece of wood into an effigy, maybe for use as a voodoo doll. Do biker gangs have witch doctors?

  3. Sorry about the lack of posting your comment! It was not intentional. The settings I have make comment moderation occur after the first six days of a post.... Unfortunately, something is wrong in the passwords I use to let me publish it and I haven't sat down and tried to figure it out. I really do apologize. If your comment occurs before six days (I think) after the post was written, it auto posts. I did that a while back when the ad bots were hitting me hundreds of times a day.

    2. All I have is a traditional and seldom used Swiss Army pocket knife. I'd like something nice too, but haven't found one yet that appeals to me so that I'd really carry it around all the time yet, but I have been looking a lot too. Ample beer, whiskey, and pipes have been adequately consumed as well to celebrate St Patrick's day correctly!!!! And, in case you are interested, by channeling of Jack Elam is going great! I have never let my beard and moustache get so full before (would trim it relatively short. It is bushier than I had expected, and damn if the kids at the Starbucks , cafeteria, and even in my class aren't bemused. I have been told I am "rocking out" my beard at least a half dozen times in the last two weeks. Not sure if they are serious or making fun.... But it doesn't matter to me... I'm having a helluva lot of fun with it.

  4. I think Mr. Rosewater in an outlaw biker gang sounds excellent. You and Rip could have some great adventures to share. Heal up fast and I like the music choice for this post. Take care.

    1. A knife I often use is an old paring knife I keep on my chair side stand, it has an HSS blade. Hard to sharpen but it sure is a good knife.

    2. the buck vantage is pretty good. it took me a while but i finally figured out that wrist action is more important than finger/flipper action when it comes to opening the son of a bitch.

i've got a few utility knives that are my blades of choice when it comes to slicing and dicing.
